10 Things Hockwold Hall Couples Forget to Plan Until the Last Minute
Wedding planning is exciting, but once the big decisions are made, booking your venue, choosing your date, and securing your suppliers, it is often the smaller details that sneak up on couples.
The good news? You are certainly not the first.
After helping hundreds of couples plan their weddings at Hockwold Hall, there are a few things we regularly see appear in those final weeks before the big day.
If you can get ahead of these, future you will be very grateful!
1. Deciding Who Is Staying in Which Accommodation
One thing that often sneaks up on couples is organising accommodation for their guests.
At Hockwold Hall, this is all managed through the client portal and is due 21 days before your wedding day. You’ll be asked to assign each guest staying overnight and provide their name, accommodation location, and contact details.
It might sound like a quick task, but gathering everyone’s information can take longer than expected, especially when you’re waiting on replies from family members and friends.
The good news is that once you’ve submitted everything, guests will receive a personalised email with their accommodation details, making the process much smoother for everyone involved!
Our advice? Start collecting this information early rather than adding it to your final month to-do list.
2. Your Rain Plan
Even if you are planning a summer wedding, the UK weather always likes to keep us guessing.
At your six-month planning meeting, we will discuss both your Plan A and your rain plan, but it is worth talking as a couple beforehand about your preferences so decisions feel easy when the time comes.
3. Asking Guests About Dietary Requirements
This often becomes a last-minute task that couples wish they had started sooner.
Rather than waiting until RSVPs are due, build dietary questions into your RSVP process from the beginning.
4. Transportation for Guests
Because Hockwold Hall is tucked away in the Norfolk countryside, it is worth thinking about how guests will get to and from the venue, especially at the end of the evening.
If guests are staying elsewhere, encourage them to plan taxis in advance as Uber is not typically available.
5. Golden Hour Photos
One of the biggest advantages of a countryside venue is the opportunity for beautiful outdoor photos, but couples are often surprised by how quickly the day goes by.
Speak with your photographer about setting aside 15 to 20 minutes around sunset.
6. Who Is Responsible for Bringing Decorations Home
At the end of an incredible day, the last thing anyone wants is to wonder who is taking home framed signs, table numbers, or leftover favours.
Assign someone ahead of time and you will thank yourselves later.
7. Building a Little Breathing Room Into the Timeline
Couples naturally want to fit everything into one day, but sometimes less is more.
Giving yourselves a few moments to simply enjoy being married often ends up becoming one of the best parts of the day!
8. Choosing Your Drinks in Advance
Your drinks order may seem like a small detail at first, but it is one of those tasks that can sneak up quickly.
The client portal makes this easy to manage, but it is helpful to start discussing preferences together early on.
9. Checking Your Client Portal Regularly
Once you are added to the portal, it becomes your go-to place for important planning details, including accommodation, drinks ordering, timelines, and layouts.
A quick check-in every now and then makes the planning process much smoother.
10. Taking a Moment to Appreciate It All
This one sounds simple, but it is probably the most important.
Your wedding day will move faster than you expect. At some point during the day, pause, look around, and take it all in. All of your favourite people are in one place celebrating the two of you.
That is pretty special.
A Final Thought
The truth is, every couple forgets something.
That is exactly why we have planning meetings, timelines, and systems in place to help guide you through the process.
The goal is never to make wedding planning perfect. It is to make it feel manageable, exciting, and far less overwhelming than couples often expect.
And remember, if something does slip your mind, chances are we have seen it before.
