Let’s face it, screaming, unruly, crying children are not fun to be around, especially on your wedding day! If you have decided to include children in your special day a few simple entertainment ideas are a must. They needn’t be expensive, but some well thought out creative child friendly activities can be such a big hit with kids and parents alike. Once the youngsters are happily distracted this will allow the adults to kick back and relax and enjoy the days events without a hitch.

Here is a list of some top ideas which can help those little ones feel special and included in the wedding festivities!

  1. Giant Garden Games – Jenga, Connect 4, Hoopla, Snakes and Ladders, you name it there probably is a giant version. These are great for laying on the grass while photographs are being taken and outside drinks are being served for the adults. Good old-fashioned fun for young and old, it’s such a great way to pass the time.

  1. Photo Booth and Wedding Themed Props – These are so amusing for children and adults at the evening wedding reception. Props can be brought online quite cheaply or even made during the day by the children. Pull your silliest faces and get those funny photos saved as an entertaining memento.

  1. Sweet Cart or Sweet Cones – These go down a treat with anyone who has a sweet tooth. You can supply these yourself by saving glass jars, filling with your favourite sweets and getting some small tongs so guests can help themselves. However please remember some sweets can be a choking hazard for young children so always have an option of something soft which melts in your mouth, chocolate buttons are always a big hit!

  1. Wedding ‘Fun’ Packs – Small packs of colouring books, crayons, wordsearches and puzzles can be a great wedding favour idea for the little ones, it will also keep them quiet (hopefully) while the speeches are being read out!

  1. Bouncy Castles – Ok who doesn’t love a bouncy castle? You know you are going to have trouble keeping the adults off it! Children will love to burn some energy running and jumping on there. Just make sure there is someone keeping watch, as sweet-fuelled kids may get a bit to energetic and have the smaller kids bouncing all over the place.

  1. Crafty Table – You could set up a dedicated craft table at the wedding reception with sheets of colouring, crayons, wedding stickers and wedding themed craft making packs. Kids of all ages will enjoy doing these and they can keep the evening guests entertained too, just remember to restock the table for the evening.

  1. Disposable Camera Treasure Hunt – Why not include a disposable camera for each child at the wedding and attach a treasure hunt of photos to be taken. These little photographers may capture a truly wonderful shot which will be such a great find once developed.

  1. Face Painter – Once photographs have officially finished, what a great way to let the children have even more fun by hiring a face painter. You will have little dinosaurs, superheroes, fairies and much more running around your evening reception keeping the guests entertained.

  1. Special Children’s Menu, Drinks and Snacks – Why not ask your caterers to put together little snack packs for the children and to make sure there are some yummy ‘kid friendly’ meals to choose from for the wedding breakfast. Things like sausage and mash, cheesy pasta or fish and chips will tempt their little tastebuds and not lead to any tantrums!

  • Kids Disco Hour & Games – After the speeches and cake cutting it may be a nice idea to invite all the children up to the dancefloor for a kid’s hour of music and party games (musical statues, bumps or even limbo!) This will get everyone into the party mood.

These are just a few boredom busting ideas which kids of all ages will enjoy and best of all keep them entertained, the most important thing to remember is if the kids are happy everyone is down for a good time.
